Stelling on the Heaths by Dewfooter Stelling on the Heaths by Dewfooter
Stellingwarf: Aekingerzand reserve. The Stelling (judge/Sherriff) of the Warf poses in armour, stolen from hired knights from the Bishop of Utrecht. Serves him right, the greedy bugger. :P

Suggester's words: When I saw Stelling on the Heaths, my imagination was immediately sparked. The pose, movement and historical context paves the way for any number of wonderful, creative artworks. I believe that a photo-manipulation is only as good as the stocks used. If this is the case, then a manip using this stock could only be brilliant due to the large, clear quality shot it is. Thanks to ~Dewfooter for the inspiring resource! ( Suggested by SheWolf-26 and Featured by FantasyStock )

Thanks for all the comments people. I'm glad you like it.

A little note: the Stellingwarf was the first peasant republic of the Netherlands, back in the 14th century and they won their freedom from the Bishop of Utrecht who wanted them to pay taxes. It's always the money, ain't it?

Most of the stuff you see is home-made.

as I see it that shield is made of wood
it wouldn't stand a single arrow, not to mention a stroke from a sword
not very authentic ;P

the shield was always made of wood.
This one has a bit of a history of its own, you can find it in my 'woodwork' folder.

Anyway, this shield is made from heavy mdf and it has withstood many hard hits from sword and spear. I am quite surprised and impressed by the material myself. :D

tiny? It's thick, compacted woodstuff -industrially made- and its bloody heavy!
Dead cheap too. ;)

it looks awfully thin for wooden shield
sorry... XD

well, maybe it's just the perspective that fools me...

you don't have to say you're sorry. I've got and have used a couple of shields, including 'professional' or real ones.
This is a shield that I made from props my family made for my wedding day, so it was never intended as a real swordstopper. Since it was gathering dust in the attic and I needed protection for show- and training fights, I decided to give it a go. :)

well, I just felt that I wronged you

I don't have any real experience with medieval crafts, but I got interested enough in the topic to have some little knowledge. and that tells me that medieval armor and weapons often are more clunky than modern romantics dream of
