Today I lived in the Iron Age with the last classes of my friend the teacher's elementary school. They do that every year in a re-enactment Iron Age village somewhere in the woods of Apeldoorn, Netherlands.

I had the honour of playing a role in their 3-day sojourn in the Iron Age and played Oka, the Germanic warrior. (I think I'm supposed to be Tubanti tribe, but I'm not sure. :D )

It was a great day. I did shoot some photos, and will post them the coming days. Good inspiration for y'all I hope.

I am a high school English teacher and I would SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO love to do that. I could have a reenactment of Beowulf! I somehow think it would not work for me though... My high school students would probably have problems tearing themselves away from their iphones and various electronic devices. (Maybe I need to move to the Netherlands...)

You'd be surprised. Pupils tell their teachers they would like to live there and that they don't want to go back to the iPhones and TV's.

One of them told me everybody in the world should go and live like this... ;)

And DON'T move to the Netherlands. America is slowly turning into it, so there's no need. :D

I don't know...I don't feel like we are getting any closer to the Netherlands... **sigh**

It would be nice if everyone lived more simply...but I'm not sure if my students would survive more than a week.
